History was always the subject I enjoyed most at school, particularly anything involving revolutions, political change or competing interpretations of the same event. I’ve now been tutoring A-Level History for five years. My sessions are fairly conversational: we might argue over whether economics or leadership mattered more, then use that discussion to build an essay plan. I also spend a lot of time helping students make revision manageable.

My background is in modern history and I’ve worked with A-Level students for over a decade. I particularly enjoy teaching Germany, Russia and international relations because they lend themselves so well to debate. I’m fairly rigorous when marking essays and will point out exactly where an argument becomes descriptive. Before exams, I use short planning drills and timed paragraphs rather than asking students to write endless full essays.

I came into tutoring after completing my History degree and discovering that I genuinely enjoyed the teaching side more than I expected. Six years later, I mainly work with A-Level students online. Source questions are probably my favourite thing to teach because there’s a real method to them once you know what to look for. I also help with essay structure, remembering evidence and getting through larger topics without revision becoming overwhelming.
