I’ve taught A-Level History for seven years, with most of my students coming to me for help with essays and exam technique. I’m particularly interested in modern European history and enjoy teaching the Cold War and twentieth-century Germany. In lessons we usually take an essay question apart, work out what it is really asking, then build an argument before writing. I also mark timed essays and give detailed feedback between sessions.

Hi, I’m a History tutor with four years of experience working with A-Level students. I was the student who actually enjoyed spending ages on source questions, so they’re still one of my favourite things to teach. I’m quite relaxed in lessons and prefer talking through an argument before putting anything on paper. A lot of my students come to me because they know the content but struggle to turn it into a convincing essay.

I’m a qualified History teacher and have spent over a decade teaching A-Level classes. My main areas are Tudor England, the British Empire and twentieth-century international relations. I place a lot of emphasis on accurate historical evidence, but also on explaining why that evidence matters to the argument. Students can send me essays between lessons, and I’m happy to go through examiner comments or marked schoolwork with them.

I started tutoring A-Level History while completing postgraduate study and have now been doing it for five years. My specialist area is Middle Eastern history, although I also teach British and European topics. I like lessons to involve plenty of discussion because it quickly shows whether a student really understands an event or has simply memorised the textbook. We then use those ideas for essay plans, source work and timed questions.

History essays can be frustrating because knowing loads of facts doesn’t automatically get you a high mark. That’s the part of A-Level History I mainly help with. I’ve tutored for three years and spend a lot of lessons showing students how to choose evidence, compare interpretations and keep an argument running through an essay. I’m especially fond of Russian history, so anything involving revolution or the Soviet Union usually gets me talking.

I have eight years’ experience teaching A-Level History and previously worked in secondary education before moving into private tutoring. My lessons are fairly structured: we identify the weak area, review the relevant material and then apply it to an exam question. I particularly enjoy nineteenth and twentieth-century political history. Near exams, I use timed plans and past papers extensively so students become familiar with what the questions require.
